Lovely lettering

To celebrate a love of vintage typography, we've compiled a few of our favourite retro signs collected over the years. Even the simplest of typographic design looks lovely when such craftsmanship had gone into the design. Inspired by the simplistic designs of the past is a recent notecard design with a pop of colour found when the envelope is opened.

For the love of letterpress

Letterpress is a form of printing that was developed in the mid-15th century in which a reversed, raised surface was covered with ink and then pressed into a sheet of paper to obtain a positive right-reading image. Letters and images were set by hand and the result of this workmanship left an impression into the paper, giving a wonderful visual definition to the artwork. Letterpress became nearly obsolete with the need for a quicker method of printing, but is currently seeing a revival in the printing world as it evokes a quality and craftsmanship that is not often found in other printing methods today. R+J adores letterpressing just about any invitation or notecard as we believe the lovely texture it creates adds to the modern-vintage look we strive to achieve.

Why, thank you very much

Using the bespoke pattern created for their wedding as a background, this thank you card was created to feature a photograph of the beautiful bride and groom. The envelope was hand-lined with a gold colour matching the pattern. The photo was slotted into the front of the card which allows the receiver to keep the photo as a momento. Sure to bring back memories of the happy day!
